The VW Golf, now in its seventh generation, is still such a star. Since 2013, it even bears the designations of European “Car of the Year” and “World Car of the Year“. As the GTD, this car from Wolfsburg has now been equipped with a powerful diesel engine and has a sporty look. Showing a high performance and a low fuel consumption, this torquey Volkswagen is economically very efficient, which explains why this variant is particularly coveted. ABT Sportsline wants to underscore the dynamic look of the Golf GTD and has equipped it, like its predecessors, with Bavarian extras: customised aerodynamic elements are just as much part of it as is a powerful and dependable uprating.
“The objective was to make this compact diesel even sportier. Our ABT Golf VII GTD is a very, very stylish power package,” says Hans-Jürgen Abt, CEO of the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group. The extensive aerodynamics package includes a front spoiler, front grille, side skirts and trunk lid attachment. Augmented by the right headlight covers and mirror covers, this all makes for an assertive look that underscores the aesthetics of the GTD. The four-pipe exhaust and rear skirt insert are also very striking indeed.
But this diesel is not only visually powerful and energetic. Thanks to ABT Power, the compact diesel engine has about 210 hp/155 kW (serial version: 184 hp/135 kW). With about 430 Nm (serial version: 380 Nm), the GTD can be very torquey. If you want to combine huge fun with economic efficiency, the ABT Golf GTD is exactly what you want. And with the right tires it is even made better: the dynamic VW simply needs the ER-C or DR 18 or 19-inch alloy wheels…
This package is really quite something: it’s fun to drive and saves money into the bargain. This roadworthy car is also visually attractive. So, the ABT Golf VII GTD is simply a “Great Top Diesel“.
