Le Mans in the 50s comes alive in a superb and highly-affordable recreation of the legendary Jaguar D-Type, offered at auction by Historics on June 1st.
The legendary Jaguar D-Type is responsible for securing some of Jaguar’s most celebrated victories, including outright Le Mans 24-Hour victories on three consecutive years, in 1955, 1956 and 1957.
Inevitably, examples of this supremely effective racing car are now highly-prized items with a stout, seven figure ticket price to match.
However, for an authentic flavour of the D-Type at a fraction of the cost, a superb recreation – presented in the guise of the works car – OKV 3 – that competed at Le Mans and won at the Reims 12-hour race in 1954 – is set to attract significant interest when it comes to sale at Historics at Brooklands major summer auction on Saturday, June 1, with an estimate of £39,000- £45,000.
Built by one of the UK’s leading Jaguar specialists, Revival Motorsport, in 1969, this D-Type Recreation has superb stature and offers an impressive specification. At its heart is a fully-rebuilt and balanced 4.2 litre straight-six Jaguar powerplant, featuring a lightened flywheel, triple Weber carburettors, competition electric fuel pump and electronic ignition, giving the car excellent performance, with a chassis and suspension tuned to match.
The 1954 flowing, short nose bobtail bodywork design has been re-created, incorporating the single door and screen layout of the original D-Type on which it is based. The coachwork has been finished to the highest standard in a colour that replicates the original, and includes painted racing roundels. Close attention to detail continues with the correct style handles, bonnet straps and wheels, complemented within the interior by replica instruments, leather seats and Wilton carpet.
So confident is the vendor in the sheer quality of the car that it will be offered at Historics with a 12-month unconditional warranty within the UK.
Ready for the road, this outstanding recreation of the Jaguar D-Type represents a rare opportunity to acquire a heartfelt and spirited recreation of a truly iconic motoring legend.
Viewing of this, and all 100+ consigned cars, 80+ classic motorcycles and automobilia is at Historics at Brooklands, near Weybridge, Surrey on Friday 31st May from 10.00am with the auction on the following day, Saturday 1st June.
