Year in and year out, the Mitsubishi Lancer mid-size sports sedan is consistently one of the Japanese auto manufacturer”s best-selling vehicles. But this should come as no surprise as the good-looking, affordably-priced, fuel-efficient and content-laden Lancer model has long provided consumers with a lot of car for their hard-earned money.
Numerous changes have been made to Mitsubishi Motors” popular Lancer SE AWC 4-door for the 2013 model year. These include:
- Convenient new Thule® plug-in roof carrier accommodation
- Sharp-looking new 16-inch 5-spoke alloy wheel design
- An available Premium Package that consists of power glass sunroof; Rockford Fosgate® premium audio system with SiriusXM satellite radio; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; high contrast meter with color LCD MID; and soft-touch door trim with chrome lever
Introduced just last year, the Mitsubishi Lancer SE AWC is an affordably-priced model that is specifically designed for the Snowbelt states and includes a fuel-efficient 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine/continuously-variable transmission (CVT) along with the company”s highly capable All-Wheel Control (AWC) all-wheel drive system. Standard features on the Lancer SE include heated front seats and side view mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels and stylish appointments including a chrome lower grille, upgrade dark silver instrument panel trim and unique black and beige trim seating fabric.
Placed atop the wide-ranging 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer model lineup is the Lancer Ralliart, offering pulse-pounding performance in opulent surroundings. This 4-door sports sedan owes its excellent performance to high-tech equipment “borrowed” from its hyper-athletic cousin – the world-famous Lancer Evolution. These include a 237 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged and intercooled MIVEC-equipped inline-4 engine and rapid-shifting 6-speed automated manual Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift Transmission (TC-SST) – essentially a more subtly tuned version of the incredible Lancer Evolution”s exceptional drivetrain. The handling of the 2013 Lancer Ralliart model also benefits from full-time All-Wheel Control (AWC) with Active Center Differential (ACD) and front helical limited-slip differential, rear limited-slip differential and Hill Start Assist (HSA).
At the opposite end of the spectrum, the entry-level Lancer DE model packs a great deal of welcome amenities into a handsome 4-door at a very sensible price point. Standard equipment includes a melodious 4 speaker, 140-watt AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with digital signal processor, speed-compensated volume and equalization control; remote keyless entry; auto-off halogen headlamps; anti-theft engine immobilizer; power door locks and windows with driver-side auto down; and stylish touches including sculpted side air dams, a blacked-out front grille and unique interior accents.
Providing the 2013 Lancer DE with its motive force is the tried and true 2.0-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) that makes a full 152 horsepower. The Lancer DE is only available with a robust 5-speed manual transmission as the standard unit.
One notch above the base Lancer DE in the 2013 model lineup is the Lancer ES. This version includes all of the features on the Lancer DE but adds additional content and available amenities.
Both the Lancer DE and ES models achieve a lofty EPA rating of 34 mpg on the highway when equipped with the continuously-variable transmission (CVT).
Positioned above the Lancer ES and below the Lancer Ralliart is a model that combines that best attributes of both: the value-priced, sporty
2013 Lancer GT. This model includes the eye-catching front fascia from the Lancer Ralliart, along with sport front bucket seats; 18-inch alloy wheels; automatic climate control; a rear spoiler; upscale gloss-black instrument panel trim; and a responsive168 horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a crisp-shifting 5-speed manual transmission (or a high-tech continuously variable transmission (CVT) with INVECS-III and Sportronic® shifting with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters is also available).Every 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer model comes with a wide array of advanced safety technologies as part of the standard equipment package. These include advanced dual-stage front air bags with occupant seat position sensor; side-impact head protection curtain air bags (front and rear); front seat-mounted side air bags; driver’s side knee air bag; anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD); Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control Logic (TCL); and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
